The best way to protect your Octopus card and keep it functioning properly is with the Octopus protective pouch, which is available in different designs. All pouches are sold at $5 each from designated MTR Customer Service Centres, KCR East Rail Ticket Offices and KCR Light Rail Customer Services
Centres.
Note:
1.Your Octopus card can only be used when it has a positive remaining value, although the
remaining value may go as low as negative HK$35 during the last payment transactionbefore reloading.
Any negative value will be recovered during your next reload transaction.
2.If you cancel your Personalised Octopus (or have your Personalised Octopus card confiscated due to illegal usage) within 5 years from the card issuance date, Octopus Cards Limited
will withhold $30 from the deposit to cover the cost of the Octopus card.
DO:
Keep the card in a protective pouch
Reload value onto the card before the value runs out
If your Octopus card is rejected at the processor, wait until the passenger indication light stops flashing, then try again
Contact staff when assistance is required
Use the appropriate Octopus card type
Present your Octopus card for inspection upon request
When taking LRT, place your Octopus card onto the entry/ exit processor as required
Not Do :
Present more than one Octopus card to the fare processor at the same time
Flick, bend, write on, scratch or tap the Octopus card
Put the Octopus card in your wallet near coins, studs or zippers
Put the Octopus card in your back pocket, because the microchip inside the card may become damaged when you sit on it
Place any electronic equipment such as digital diaries close to the Octopus reader
Give your Personalised Octopus card to any other person to use
