The processor can detect the card through most wallets and handbags, so you do not need to take it out.

Passengers may add value to their Octopus cards (up to a maximum of $1,000) using cash at any designated transport service counters, 7-Eleven convenience stores, Circle K convenience stores, Maxim's fast food/cake shop outlets or through Add Value Machines. Some add value machines can also accept EPS. For even greater convenience, you can use the Automatic Add-Value Servicefor Personalised Octopus cards*. 

When the remaining value is running low while using your Octopus card, you would normally need to reload value at one of the designated sales outlets or through add value machines. Now, there's an easier way! If you have a credit card designated savings or current account of the banks listed in the box below, value can be automatcially added to your card through the new Automatic Add-Value Service when either of the following situations occurs: 

When the stored value on the card has already reached zero or a 
negative value. 


When the remaining value plus the maximum negative value ( HK$35) 
is insufficient to pay for theintended deduction amount. 


Each time, HK$250 will be automatically added to your card through the fare processors. The same amount will be deducted from your designated bank account or credit card. Each Octopus card will be authorised to perform only one automatic add-value service per day, and each of these transactions will be clearly listed in your bank statement or monthly credit card statement. The use of a Personalised Octopus Card togehter with the Automatic Add-Value service, will be like owning an Octopus card that never runs out of cash. You will never have to worry about not having enough money on the card for your next purchase/journey anymore! 

To apply for this service, you must be Of 18 years of age, or above In possession of a Personalised Octopus card, or is in the process of applying for one.
